The Lonely Day - Kongakut River, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
At our ravenous rate of consumption, there will come a day when we exhaust the planet's finite oil resources. But before that day comes, we will sink oil drills into every square inch of the earth. We will destroy rainforests, tundra, deserts, savannas, plains and oceans. We will see toucans, caribou, lizards, elephants, wolves and whales only in picture books. We will roam an empty world aching to hear the song of a bird or the croak of a frog. We will not be able to answer a child who asks why we didn't change our ways. And when the day comes when we suck the last drop of oil from the earth, we will be alone.
